Texas rice university to close due to ‘serious threat’

A Texas rice University of Texas is set to close its doors in April, just weeks after a deadly shooting that left six dead at the campus.

According to a press release from the Rice University, the decision was made after the university received multiple threats over the past month.

“Rice University is taking the extraordinary step of closing the doors of its student center for the foreseeable future,” the university stated in the release.

“Rice will continue to offer educational programming, as it has throughout the year, in the event of a change in our security measures.”

The university did not disclose any details about what those measures might be, citing a need to “assess our security and other options.”

In the wake of the April shootings, Rice reopened its doors for classes.

The university is scheduled to host its third annual class on Tuesday.

Rice’s campus is located in the Texas panhandle near the border with Oklahoma.
